FDR’s 2nd Bill of Rights

After watching millions of Americans suffer throughout the Great Depression, Franklin Roosevelt delivered his State of the Union speech in 1944 calling for the United States to work towards recognizing a set of rights for everyone that would ensure each American could have the opportunity to experience the full freedom of American citizenship.

These rights included protections from medical illness, old age, job loss, and even housing for every American. This is a special video recording (only recently discovered) of this famous State of the Union speech he gave over the radio. What would our country look like today if this 2nd Bill of Rights had been adopted? Many other countries in the world have adopted these same protections. It’s still possible for Americans to do the same.
