Why?
We Progressives win on the battle of ideas — a lot of them. From marriage equality to govt-supported healthcare – the American people, by and large are with us when we put those issue from and center and deliver them effectively. But, when it comes time for elections, we too often lose. There are a myriad of reasons and a lot of unknowns but there are some identifiable problems that we can start with.
There is too much focus at the top
Around 90% of election spending goes to just 10% of campaigns. State and local candidates have very limited resources to run increasingly-complicated campaigns.
Our campaigns don't learn and improve
Win or lose, the day after election day, campaigns close up and move on. There is no widespread effort to understand which tactics worked and which didn’t or to build any system of making our campaigns better.
Core progressive issues are valuable but invisible
Core ‘meat-and-potato’ progressive issues are supported by the majority of Americans. Yet, contentious social issues get all the attention, crowding out the core issues and often alienating large groups of potential supporters.
We're losing the media messaging battle
In today’s short-form modern media, Republicans have an inherent messaging advantage. That is worsened by the fact that Progressives have not figured out how to utilize modern media effectively.
How We're Working To Help
Help state and local candidates
We partner with orgs that recruit state & local candidates. Then we help those candidates utilize technology to run better campaigns.
Build knowledge around modern media
We develop and test methods to improve the way we communicate and then measure the effectiveness of modern media efforts.
Advocate for core issues
We use the lessons modern from media research to advocate for the core issues that get little attention but can be very attractive to the broader electorate.
Implement those lessons for all
Finally, we work with tech providers to build and offer tools that help the ‘Bottom-90’ deliver more and better messages and improve operations.
