Targeted Congressional Races, part 1

Whether Harris or Trump ends up winning in just over four weeks from now, how much either will get accomplished will be determined largely by elections that few pay attention to – elections for congressional house seats.

Currently, Republicans have a 9 seat majority (222-213). This slim majority impacts everything. It enables all the ridiculous hearings on Biden’s made-up misbehavior. It allows countless investigations into things that have already been investigated. It keeps important progressive legislation from being addressed and potentially passed. And more.

It’s a very unhealthy aspect of our current election system that the reelection rate for congressional incumbents is 98%. Between gerrymandering, name-recognition, fundraising advantages, and badly-run challenger campaigns, out of 435 elections for Congress every cycle, only a couple of dozen are really competitive.

With that in mind, here are 12 races that have a decent chance of changing hands. We have culled this list to fit a very narrow criteria. Each district has a Republican incumbent. Each district was carried by Joe Biden in the 2020 election. And lastly, each has, at the time of this writing, raised less than $5M in total contributions for 2024.

So, in short, this is a list of Republicans, representing mildly or solidly Democratic-leaning districts, being challenged by a Democrat with limited funding.
